There is a saying in the fashion world that if you wore a trend the first time around, you should not try wearing it again. And when I think back to the 90’s fashion trends I wore, I am ok with this! Thankfully, this “rule” does not apply in the interior design world. In home design, trends also seem to come and go, but instead of it being a fashion faux pas, we tend to embrace this evolution of “what’s old is new again.”
About a decade ago it seems that dark woods fell out of style. There was so much emphasis on whites, greys, and lighter woods, that the traditional dark wood took a backseat. It should come as no surprise that now people are craving a warmer, more comfortable feel in their homes. In fact, in this month’s issue of Furniture, Lighting & Decor there is a feature called “Warmed up Wood” which calls out the notion that “Dining rooms are bringing a nod to traditional with wood tones that offer timeless appeal, in any style.”

The resurgence of traditional darker woods in the home brings the challenge of how to incorporate it with a more modern aesthetic? Luckily, it’s not that hard…..Just look at these examples we found:
