Each year, the team at House Beautiful scouts out the perfect spot to bring a whole home design to life. This year it happens to be located near the vibrant mountain town of Asheville, NC. They hired 11 amazing designers from all across the country to execute their visions for each room. One of these talented designers happens to be a Wilson, NC native and lives right down the road in Raleigh. When MA Allen reached out to us about providing Sarreid books to fill the shelves of the game room she was designing, we were ecstatic.
MA Allen Interiors is an award-winning Interior Design firm located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Having received national recognition for residential and commercial projects, MA Allen is a House Beautiful Next Wave Designer with projects featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Luxe Magazine and Flower Magazine.
The game room is situated on the lower level of the contemporary mountain home and draws inspiration from the legendary Zelda Fitzgerald, who found solace in this region during her later years. A Jazz Age icon and the spirited wife of author F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda was celebrated for her boundless creativity and vibrant energy. In the 2024 Whole Home, designer MA Allen captures Zelda’s soul with a dynamic blend of color, pattern, and an eclectic mix of art. Maximalism and unexpected details are the essence of Allen’s captivating design style and translated perfectly into this project as you can see:
What no one could have expected or predicted was the devastation that would descend upon the Asheville area because of Hurricane Helene, whose flood waters took hundreds of lives. While this beautiful home remained standing high on a mountain, the rest of the region was in completely ravaged and will be picking up the pieces of their beloved communities for a very long time. Therefore, the focus of the this home has shifted to one of hope and inspiration..
