COASTAL FOG, Greenville, NC
Atmosphere is the feeling or sense evoked by an environment or setting, and there is no better word to describe Coastal Fog, located in beautiful historic downtown Greenville, NC. This special place is a combination of design, retail, market and studio and as their website states, “It is an uplifting venue for visitors and neighbors alike to enjoy a soulful reprieve from a busy day.”

In 2007 Jordan Vainright Proctor started Signature Jordan, LLC as a commissioned art and interior design company in the basement of her home. She received her bachelors of science degree in interior design and has an ever-present passion of creating fine art. After two years of running her business as a sole proprietor, her mother Marty, who volunteered her time graciously for two years, joined her as a partner. In 2009, they opened their first retail venue in a 400 square-foot booth named “Coastal Fog”.
The concept caught on quickly and the mother-daughter duo needed to expand, so they moved into a historic house that was zoned for commercial use. “That was such a memorable location as there was a wood burning fireplace” Jordan fondly remembers. They were then approached by a fellow business in town to move into their three-story historic building in downtown Greenville. Being an iconic building, they decided to move and have never looked back. Eventually, Jordan’s sister, Jenn, joined the team as a partner “bringing her love of history, historic quality refinishing, business acumen and an eye for quality.” In 2016, they opened the Market at Coastal Fog which is an inspired community gathering place with top quality coffee, wine, sweets, and savories.

Between her Mother, sister and two daughters being involved in the day to day business, there is a strong sense of family. It should come as no surprise that Jordan would want to replicate that Coastal Fog atmosphere in her newly completed dream home. In her own words, “The floor plan for the house we built was one that I have drawn and designed from scratch for over 10 years. When the opportunity to build in a historic neighborhood came, we decided immediately to use this floor-plan. The concept is that it feels like a historic farm or structure that would’ve been on land and it was added to over the years as well as other houses built around it over the years. My strongest desire was that it was warm and welcoming and felt steeped in history. The feeling that it has stood the test of time and grown over the years was very important. My happiest moment is when someone asks how old the house is. It’s fun to see their reaction on their face when I tell them that we finished building it in November 2021. For the interior, It is important to me to have spaces that transition from warm and intimate to voluminous and awe inspiring. Antiques and new pieces that look like antiques are my favorite. (That’s why Sarried always suits me!)”

Sarreid pieces can be seen throughout Coastal Fog and in Jordan’s home because “the case goods and wooden furniture are second to none. We love the fact that it’s through and through wood and there isn’t a question of quality. We really like the wooden drawer slides with the dovetails that show. We adore the finishes which appear to be authentic antique finishes. Knowing that we can show up on a site for an install and don’t have to worry about the clients questioning the quality, is invaluable.” When asked which Sarreid piece was her favorite her answer was the 40427-1 Eight is Enough Sideboard which can be found in her own home. ” It is breathtakingly long and the finish is to die for.”
